Declutter Your Spaces

Many times it’s hard to concentrate when your house or office is in total disarray, but it can be hard to know where to start. Here are some tips:

  • Start in the spaces you use most: At home where do you spend most of your time? Start in that room or area. At the office, your desk is most likely the best place to start. Don’t forget areas that got heavily used during the summer and are most likely in disarray like the garage, pool areas, and mud rooms.
  • Sort: First go through and determine what is trash and what you need to keep
  • Organize: Take your “keep” piles and find a place for everything and then stay consistent to keep them in their place.
  • Clean: Now that clutter is gone you can more easily clean the space and even add little touches to make it a more comfortable space like a candle or an updated picture of some of your summer fun!
  • Bonus Tip: Don’t forget your car. After camps, vacations, and other summer fun it’s likely the family vehicle could use a good cleanout. Perhaps even treat yourself and pay someone else to detail it to have you in tip-top shape for the rest of the year.

New Routines

With the shift from summer to fall comes the return of school for the kids. Even if you don’t have kids, this can still affect your routine with increased traffic, crossing through school zones, and co-worker schedule changes.

If you do have kids then incorporating their schedules into yours is always a challenge. Don’t panic but also be realistic. The number one way to cause yourself extra stress is not leaving yourself enough time for your tasks, pickups and drop-offs, and some downtime. There are only so many hours in a day and burning yourself out won’t do anyone any good. Feel free to say “no” to commitments that aren’t right for you and your family.

Looking Ahead

With all the fun fall festivals, family get-togethers, and other obligations make sure you are looking ahead at the next couple of months and identifying the important events. This helps you identify conflicts early and decide your priorities ahead of time. This makes it easy then to say “yes” or “no” to other things as they arise. Remember, you don’t have to have a commitment scheduled for every single weekend.
